Trust and Portability

Family recipes are personal. Some have been passed down for generations. Trusting an app with them is a real decision, and you should know exactly how that trust is honored.

This page covers what happens to your recipes while you are here, how you can take them with you if you leave, and what we would do if Flour Power ever stopped existing.

Your recipes belong to you

Every recipe you save, every note you add, every modification your family makes, is yours. Not Flour Power's. Yours.

You can export the whole collection at any time. Free tier. Trial. After cancellation. The export feature is not paywalled, not throttled, not behind a customer-service request. It is a button in your settings.

The export uses standard formats:

  • JSON in the Schema.org Recipe format. Any modern recipe app can read it.
  • PDF for printing or archival.
  • Markdown for plain text that will outlast any specific app.

If you want to leave Flour Power tomorrow, you can. The recipes come with you.

What we export

A full Flour Power export contains:

  • Every recipe title, description, source URL
  • Every ingredient, with quantity, unit, and structured fields
  • Every step, in order, with timing
  • Every photo you uploaded
  • Every note you added
  • Every tag you applied
  • Every cookbook you created, with the recipes in them

Nothing is held back. The free tier exports as much as the paid tier, which is to say, everything you have.

What if Flour Power goes away

I have planned for my own potential obsolescence.

If Flour Power ever has to shut down, here is what I commit to.

  • 90 days of notice, minimum. Three months is enough time to export, evaluate alternatives, and move.
  • Export available throughout the wind-down. Same tools that work today work on day 89.
  • Documentation of alternatives. A clear list of other recipe apps with import instructions for each, including direct competitors.
  • MoveMyRecipes keeps running. MoveMyRecipes is a separate tool I also built, structurally independent from Flour Power. Losing one does not mean losing the other.
  • A final bulk export as last resort. If the live service had to go down sooner, a downloadable copy of every user's complete collection.

Your recipes go home with you, no matter what.

How your data is protected

  • No data resale. Your recipes, notes, dietary preferences, and meal plans are not sold to advertisers. The subscription fee is how I pay the bills.
  • No ads. Not in the app, not in emails, not anywhere.
  • No shadow profiles. I do not analyze your ingredient choices to infer your medical conditions, income bracket, or political alignment.
  • Industry-standard encryption. Your data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest.
  • Permanent deletion means permanent deletion. See below.

The full details are on the privacy page.

How account deletion works

If you decide to leave, deletion happens in two stages.

Stage 1: Soft delete, 90 days. Your account is marked deleted. You cannot log in. The account does not show up anywhere. The underlying data is held for 90 days so an accidental deletion can be recovered.

Stage 2: Permanent removal, after 90 days. The data is removed from the production database. Photos and attachments are deleted from storage. The email is released.

After Stage 2 completes, the data does not exist. You can also request immediate deletion if you do not want the 90-day window. Contact me and it is processed right away.

Privacy controls within the app

Your collection is private by default. Three levels of visibility, you choose per recipe.

Private. Only people in your family account can see the recipe. The default for everything you add.

Shared via private link. A unique URL for one specific recipe. Not indexed by search engines. Revocable any time.

Public. A clean public URL, indexed by search engines, importable by any modern recipe app. Opt-in per recipe.

Family members join by email invitation or invite code. Nobody joins your family without one. Each member has a role and a permission level you control.

Why I built it this way

The reason this page exists is that you should not have to guess. A platform that hides its export feature, buries its deletion policy, or refuses to commit to anything in writing is telling you something about the relationship. Building this way costs me something. I cannot use lock-in to retain customers. I have to compete on whether Flour Power is the right tool for your family, not on whether leaving is harder than staying. That is a harder business to run than the alternative. I am doing it anyway.

Your recipes will outlast any single app. The architecture is designed so that whatever happens to me, the recipes continue to be available to you, in formats you control.
